I'm going to celebrate the same way I do every year,
by watching The Fall of the Roman Empire and Reds.

Commie pinko fascist freedom-hater!
That's better than the rest of I suppose that just go out and get drunk! :P
((Hugs))
Laura
lemmee buy you a doughnut, too! Tomorrow is Midwest Doughnut day.
(brought to you by the Corporate Activities Committee. *only take one, please*)
Doh!
Graves, you swine!
I think it is more likely you will be watching Roman Polanksy's fall and taking a few reds.
I got your number.
Regards,
Tengrain
Can Killbots be veterans too? I will be watching Dr. Strangelove . . .
übermilf, duh.
sunshine, oh, I never said anything about not getting drunk, I just do that at home.
okjimm, is there tax on this donut?
mrmacrum, ha ha!
tengrain, actually, I'll be watching Shaq try to guard Dwight Howard. Kids, just say no, unless you can get a good deal.
holte, oh sure, the problem is, when they come back, the government never replenishes their oil.
Warren Beatty is much cuter in Shampoo. Can I watch that instead?
Thanks Randal you always know how to cheer a guy up.
I'll go watch Appocolypse Now.
LBR, what, no Dick Tracy?
demeur, I aim to please.
The killbots that make it home alive are likely to be unemployed or even homeless. But hey, at least the banks honor them by being closed on this sacred day. Isn't that enough?
I had a teacher who was a lacanian analyst who dressed like dick tracy, seriously.
tom, you're right, and that just made me realize something. We're open, therefore, this library must hate the troops. See what book larnin' gets ya?
LBR, yellow hat and trenchcoat and everything? Does this mean that a rankian would dress like a character from a Wagner opera?
YES! He wore a yellow hat and a trench and he was a dick. The only thing this guy couldn't do was teach or date Madonna. He was the only professor I ever had who wore cartoon character costumes.
As a veteran who had to put up with empty platitudes from non-serving, potbelly chickenhawks today the hug my daughter gave me when she got homes was enough.
Veteran's Day movies for me? Red Dawn and The Great Escape.
Library open? Since when was there a library bailout? I suppose next you'll be getting bonuses.
I invite everyone to spend about 20 minutes watching two clips at Youtube. Try to imagine you're 19 years old, thousands of miles from home and realize this battle, this day could easily be your last. Or maybe imagine you're a wife with a husband over there, in harm's way, or a mother whose son is in the thick of it.
It's not entertainment, not two segments of a quaint old black-and-white TV program. It's part of an award-winning documentary series, one the best ever made. It's about the Battle of Okinawa, but exemplifies the courage and sacrifice of our veterans of all wars. See who we owe and what our freedom cost so many.
Segment one.
Segment two.
I can never forget Armistice Day in Canada all the years I lived there when the veteran's just kept getting older. There are far too many young ones here which makes me think this country doesn't take war very seriously.
'I'll go watch Apocalypse Now.'
It's just not the same without the acid.
;>)
what susan said..
//...this country doesn't take war very seriously.//
oh, sure we do! It's called football!!
They hate us for our freedom! And our superior support that lifts and separates. ;o)
LBR, 'that boggles the mind' is an overused phrase, but not here. You must have him as a character in your book.
BB, did you just call Five Deferments a coward? The Great Escape is probably my favorite war flick of all time.
demeur, wouldn't you rather see us library employees get some of that fat, taxpayer cash instead of execs from Goldman Sachs?
SWA, I'm trying to be all anti-imperalist, and you go and do that, you bloodthirsty buzzkill. ;-)
susan, when you slip from Armistice to Veterans and glorify war while glossing over the horrible parts - you know, everything - are you surprised?
darkblack, I hope you brought enough to share with the entire class. ;-)
okjimm, the Browns don't take it very seriously.
dr.zaius, drop and give me twenty pushups! No floral prints!
