It's no saint's knucklebone, but it'll do

Whew, luckily I was wearing an extra large piece of the True Cross today.

'bout time NE Ohio gets a pilgrimage site beyond the Free Stamp.
My lower back's been terrorizing me something fierce.

I can just imagine your concession stand opening in the back of the library now. Own a real piece of the WTC for just $19.99 plus shipping and handling. Sorry no C.O.D.s

Hey this looks just like the material from the building they're tearing down across the street!

The South Carolina State Museum got a five-foot piece of an I-beam from the World Trade Center back in 2003. My daughter and I hang out there a lot on the weekends and I've seen people walk into the museum go straight to that piece, break down and cry, then walk out without looking at anything else.

My attitude is whatever floats your boat but that's sort of weird.

demeur, quiet! You want to ruin my hawking of a genuine Osama bin Laden hat?

BB, everyone needs a totem to hang their ten-gallon on, I suppose. I prefer the personal to any statery.

nunly, do you honestly think you're getting anything other than a lump of coal?

Lady Associate, where do you get these wonderful toys?

I wonder if our Calvinist bibliophile ancestor would partake of Scottish cuisine. Now that's the subject of a farce in one act.

I'm sure said Calvinist would NOT approve of Church In A Box.

Randal- With the cost of gas going up, a lump of coal would be a pretty good gift. Need something to heat up the ol' homestead.

Luckily, the steel came down in neatly stacked bundles for transport.

Around here gas is close to $6/gal but they try to fool us by measuring it in liters.

The steel beams will be used as centerpiece for a new memorial which is planned in front of the Fire Station. The memorial will honor firefighters who died in the line of duty in Lakewood as well as the 344 firefighters who died on September 11, 2001.

Of course, our flag-waving politicians here in Ohio are still gonna kick the inconveniently not-dead-yet first responders to the curb, for after all, they are but union thugs.

thatgirl, what about Predestination In A Box? Damnation or Salvation, find out for only 19.99, please wait 6-8 weeks for delivery.

nunly, good point. I've been trying without success to get my car to run on assholery. Guess I've been too nice.

susan, figures that "Canadians are nice" was nothing but a ruse.

if, I heard they stole steel from Ground Zero (and an as-yet-unbuilt orphanage if the rumors are true) to build their own Cadillacs.

Symbolism is where you find it, whether in an ancient bit of wood or modern steel I-beam. It's about what those things mean to people.

I find something civilized and heartening when people care enough to travel a few hundred miles to pick up some steel because they see in it kinship with those of their profession who died doing the job they have in common.

Believe me, I get the whole symbolism thing (we all do it, in whatever sub-cultural/societal unit we stash ourselves) but given that the fetishization of 9/11 purposely glosses over it having been a jerk empire getting stung by another jerk, which led to inevitable bouts of further jerkery, I'm not one to go 'yay, twisted metal' unless I'm playing the video game.
