Ain't Talkin' 'Bout the Little Guitars of Mean Street

Monster riffs and classic Dave cheese. No 'hello, Cleveland!' though.
The audio must've gone out.

Fuck, is that great. The song, not necessarily the duds. Oh, those wacky 80s.
And how the fuck did that not become a hit? Stupid corporate programmers and idiot listeners.

Man, I love me some old VH. One of those Warner Bros. 'Nice Price' Women and Children First/Fair Warning two-albums-in-one was the cassette that started me on the path to all things heavy, a quarter of a century ago. Fuck, I'm getting old. So many memories listening to these dudes for hours on end. Memories which never seemed to include a chick, but merely air, in the chair next to me. There's a price to be paid for being an über-dork, mes amis.

Diamond Dave, how schmaltzy you were, one of the all-time great frontmen. And fuck, could Eddie play the guitar. Happy birthday, you crazy Dutchman, and thanks for all the tunes.

It's even better when you play all three videos at once. It's punk anddeath metal. (Ok, I know Van Halen's not death metal. It's David Lee Roth for god sakes.) The clothes are the second best thing about those videos.

I kid you not when I say that there are clothes like that which American Apparel deems fashionable and profitable. I know.

Now that would be some wonderful noise. And clothes like what, spandex pants? Really? Yikes. Diamond Dave, a fashion maven ahead of his own time.

I liked their first album the best. I first heard of them when I heard a concert of their broadcast over a San Francisco radio station (KSAN, 1978). I didn't know who I was listening to but I was just blown away. They sounded totally unlike anybody I'd ever heard before.

They also do a dynamite cover version of Linda Ronstadt's "You're No Good" from their 2nd or 3rd album.

RG, Eddie's guitar was so wacky out of tune on that video that it almost ruined the song for me. As far as the second video goes, that tune got alot airplay back in the 80s when I was a kid in Queens, NY. But Eddie VH rstill has a way of exploding riffs through his amps.

Tom, I'm partial to Fair Warning but you certainly can't go wrong with the first one.

Spartacus, I chalk that up to copious amounts of blow. "Yeah man, sounds perfect!" Pretty Woman got tons of play off that album, I remember that much. Plus that video was completely fucked up.
