A Conspiracy

I could use a good conspiracy as I've got zip.

"Still?"

You guys want to band together and take down The Man?

"It will ultimately depend on citizens, and whether they will remain silent in the face of a crime that's been committed in plain view," Turley concluded. "It is equally immoral to stand silent in the face of a war crime and do nothing, and that is what the citizens are doing. There's this gigantic yawn."
Out of sight for us, out of mind for suits. Pant or double-breasted.

I was disappointed to see that Rick Warren was chosen to give the invocation at the upcoming inauguration. Just how short is Obama's memory after the unfairness practiced at last August's debate? Are they telegraphing a message they'll let bygones be forgotten? Surely there are any number of moderate Christian ministers in this country who would be willing to provide this service.

I'm afraid they're allowing for a Big Tent approach that won't be prepared to investigate and prosecute as required by law. The water under the bridge will stagnate if it's dammed much longer.

I say let's stick it to The Man. Who's got a plan?

If I was Cheney I wouldn't book a ticket to Europe anytime soon.

Randal... what troubles me more about this story is loud silence of Reps. Wexler and Kucinich. They both have presented articles of impeachment against Bush and Cheney based on hard evidence gathered since 9/11. Now that Dick (We Approved Torture) Cheney and George (So What) Bush have confirmed publicly what was already know, I want to know why they're not pushing harder for impeachment. Where the fuck are they?

That crow fellow could use a makeup lesson.

And, Rick Warren? WTF? Obama why are you doing this?

susan, it's always about the healing. Oh, ignore those lunatics in the corner of the big tent sharpening their knives for the next time they're in power. But I'm not pragmatic, so just ignore what I type. I'm sure they'll learn to behave themselves.

BE, I'm thinking something along the lines of 'doomed to failure' because even though it WILL fail, we'll be the subject of a book and then, of course, a blockbuster motion picture. Posterity!

dean, grrr, Cheney hungry, eat Old Europe! grrr grrr

spartacus, my theory? They both know that they'd get about four or five to actually vote for the damn thing because every talking hairpiece would lambaste them for wasting precious time when there are so many problems affecting all Americans because that's what they're concerned about too, thus Robert and Dennis are getting plastered in some DC bar as we speak.

This will happen again, and there will be another round of excuses from all sectors once more.

LBR, think of it as theatre. And apparently, there weren't any actual liberal Christian pastors available that day.

Doesn't anyone believe in the utility of the pariah anymore? Sheesh.

Hey, Randal, you're sounding a bit optimistic today. That's not typical. Are you finally getting into the Christmas spirit?

Would Congress need the help of the (gutted) Justice Department to investigate?

As if.

dcup, well, I prayed real hard to Jesus, told Him that I've been real good this year, that I smited dozens of His enemies and that I'll be leaving out milk and cookies for his bearded minion and since we have such a good relationship, He told me that I'll be getting what I want, namely certain people receiving an all-expenses paid trip here.

"It will ultimately depend on citizens ..."

well, that's promising.

The Murcan people are too busy for boring stuff like prosecuting war criminals so we can survive as a nation. What's on TV tonight?

Might as well just let the UN or the World Court come in and do our jobs for us, so we can keep shopping.

RG, your response to susan's comment is so right. I think that would be true to a great extent at the end of any failed presidency. With the current one, it's even more true. A majority of Americans have ached to be rid of Bush, Cheney and the rest of these creeps since, oh, a few short months after mindlessly re-electing Bush.

Add in the collapsed economy, the need to get out of Iraq and deal with Afghanistan and Pakistan, make up for eight years of lost time dealing with global warming and other environmental problems, and enthusiasm in Congress and the White House to serve up justice to the Bush crime cabal just isn't there.

I understand it, but I don't like it one damned bit. Could the people build a fire under Congress and the administration to do the right thing? Maybe, but I doubt there's enough enthusiasm among them, either. They're struggling with job losses, foreclosures, late-payment notices and a lot of other hurts right now. They just want Bush and the rest gone, out of D.C. and off the nightly news.

Excellent topic and post, but there's probably no good remedy to be had.

anita, I trust the citizens to vote on American Idol and in favor of ice cream. That's about it.

Manson? I like to think of it as a subconscious homage to German Expressionist film.

tom, are we signatories to any international treaty anymore?

utah, at least a few times a day.

SWA, I couldn't have said it better myself. The American people, as a whole, don't have the stomach for it because they want those fuckers gone and the economy IS usually the number one issue. Part of me doesn't blame them, but our failure to thing long term - you know, beyond next week - en masse is going to REALLY be a death knell at some point. Each loon pushes a bit further, and since we're NOT exceptional, no matter what the current propaganda is, we're certainly not immune from the whole thing crashing down at some point.

I will disagree on your last point, though. There's always a good remedy: heavy drinking.

I had been slightly optimistic about the future recently but after hearing several talking heads actually defend the use of torture Cheney's omission will go nowhere.
Yeah, we elected Obama and he will do some good but the "gigantic yawn" of a nation more worried about declining prices of their homes and 401K's they willing entered serfdom for will override any concerns for such antiquated principled like justice and liberty. This new American society worries about their cable television, house, credit cards, and that fuzzy warm notion of being protected from the government approved bogeyman.
