The Folly of War Joint Partnerships

Each morning and afternoon on the way to and from work, I pass by the outdoor reading garden situated next to the main branch of the Cleveland Public Library.

With plenty of shade, it's quite calming and thus very easy to get lost in the pages of the tome resting upon your lap. Well, yesterday afternoon, after an arduous yet rewarding day of helping my fellow humans to the best of my meager yet eager ability, I witnessed a young couple accompanied by an entourage of friends and relatives, everyone celebrating the momentous occasion of their wedding by taking photographs within this picturesque garden, precious and eternal memorials to their undying love.

The first thought that popped into my head as I strolled through the sharply-dressed crowd filing out onto the sidewalk was this:

Surprisingly, my sometimes-better-half didn't laugh when I told her.

Wanker.

You know it's a bad omen when the mother of the bride asks the photographer to be sure to leave a small space between the bride and groom while taking their photographs so there is room to cut the groom out of the picture when they get their future divorce. I seem to remember having that conversation with my daughter's photographer....and it came in very handy. ;-)

karen, do I get a house out of it? I only have one!

ME, I'll file that away for future reference just in case ours end up picking a chump. ;-)

Hah! I used to know a woman from a big New England Catholic family (14 children). Pre-computer editing of family pictures by her mother led to a family album as well as wall hung portraits having big black magic marker wipeouts of former spouses. It was weird.

Ah, weddings, that filmy- or is it flimsy?- fabric that binds two families together, for better or for worse.

susan, so that's why my wife keeps on buying all those Sharpies...

maria, at least flimsy is removable. Sometimes that film just never comes off no matter how hard you scrub.

what a way to show confidence for their future! Hey, when hubby and I married there were people (make that family as well) who didn't think we'd make it past a year or two and now we've been married for close to 27 years. And some of those who scoffed at our union are now divorced so go figure.

I don't get it. Why would anyone get married at a library? Wouldn't people run off and read how-to manuals?

liberality, just playing the odds. ;-)

diva, because libraries are sexy, dammit!

It sent a spike of fear down my spine just reading your description.

Believe me, I hear you. It was bad enough dressing up.

Libraries make me sneeze. I love books, and book stores DON'T make me sneeze. Why is that?
