The Good, the Bad and the Ugly 9

The Good: It began so beautifully. An uncharacteristically fast start: 3-and-out for Pittsburgh, and a methodical TD march for us. Joshua Cribbs - again - had another ridiculous game on special teams. There’s your AFC Pro Bowler, kids. An actual defensive lineman got a sack! The first-half defense bent but never broke. A 21-6 lead at one point. But the second half...

The Bad: ...was a completely different story. The pure, unadulterated contents of a septic tank. Ben Roethlisberger, limping around like the oldest invalid in America, made play after play. With his fucking legs.

The Ugly: I think Pittsburgh just converted another 3rd-and-18. Hey Phil, if you draft anything but defense next April, go jump in the Cuyahoga. After it's been set on fire. I'll bring the matches. Disgraceful. Depressing. The blood is angry today.

Bonus Ugly: My fucking internet connection. Four separate attempts to post this? Methinks it's time for an upgrade.

Up next: at the fucking ex-Browns who once won a fucking Super Bowl with players drafted by a fucking legendary ex-Brown. Fuck you Art Modell wherever you and your coked-up son are holed up. Asshole. And fuck you Ray Lewis and your tiresome Gladiator schtick. We get it. You're a bad mofo. Now, stop living off past glories. You're not even the best fucking linebacker on your team anymore. Fucker.

I can at least respect the Steelers, even if I fucking loathe their continued success against us. The Rooneys voted against the move. But Baltimore? Fuck you.

In case it wasn't clear, we're playing the Ravens.

Okay, well I guess this isn't the best time to gloat about those Cowboys, huh?

I'm not gloating about the Chicago Bears, even if they did win a game yesterday...with that fucking Grossman as QB. Watching it actually made me laugh for some reason. I guess because it's such an oddity this year.

Ugh-Oh, Randal hasn't been around the blogosphere today. Never drink wine from a box, it'll give you a helluva hangover! ;-)

POP, go ahead. Now that the Packers have a running game, we all know that they're the NFC favorites. :)

Mary Ellen, I'll give their defense a pass this year because they've had a lot of injuries, but when you KNOW you have no QB and don't go and get one, THEN trade the wrong RB, well, Jerry Angelo has no one to blame but himself.

And I appreciate the concern for my sobriety, but I was actually being a good son today and helping my folks out. No booze involved. :)

I'll gloat about my Broncos! They have given me so few opportunities to do so this year. :-(

Cowboys 8-1.

Did I mention the Cowboys won? Well, they did. They won.

Enjoy it, Texas Lady, 'cause Favre will carve and Jerry will starve. For another trophy. MUAHAHAHAAHAHA!

Randal, I think you underestimate Romo and the Boys. At least I hope you do. :)

We'll see in a few weeks, we'll see.

See, they have Candace and I cheering for them, how can they lose?

Randal Graves said...

Because the glitzy, shallow entity that is the Dallas Cowboys franchise angers the football gods who wish for the small town, down home charm of Green Bay, Wisconsin to emerge victorious! Substance over style!

Actually, Dallas is playing better than I thought they would. I wasn't sure about Romo, but he's definitely legit. Bastard.

Hi Randal. Great blog. I look forward to returning and reading more.

I share your football woes this season. I am a Chargers fan and after three years of dominating (and I mean DOMINATING) my fantasy football league), I am in dead last this year. Ugh. Rough football year. Thank God I actually love the game of football itself! :)

Je vous remercie ! Oh, don't get me started on my fantasy football team. Thanks a lot McNabb and Bush. Reggie, that is. And Chargers fan? We won't discuss last year's playoff meltdown. :)

I'm painfully aware of last year's meltdown, believe me!! :) But at least then, my fantasy football team was dominating and my alma mater was responsible for a couple of great upsets. Yes, having the last pick in my fantasy draft this year, my key scoring "threats" are Willie Parker and Wes Welker. What does that tell you? Haha.

I keep forgetting to mention that Derek Anderson is an Oregon State alum, which is where I also went to school. Despie your football woes, he really hasn't been terrible for you guys.

Randal Graves said...

I usually hope for a pick in the middle of the round, but what's funny is that I was picking next-to-last this year in my Yahoo league and grabbed Willie Parker, too. Bypassing Tom Brady. DAMMIT!

And Derek Anderson HAS been exceptional. The offense isn't the problem here. It's giving up 30 a game. :)

Yeah, I too like that middle pick. It has done right by me for several years. But getting the last pick is tricky. I am a RB girl. I stick by the old school drafting philosophy that you get your RBs early (which has always worked very well for me). And that was fine but I needed to adjust my other picks according to that dreaded last pick but didn't do so very effectively. In the past, I've always been pretty bold and explorative with picks but you really shouldn't be with the last pick! :) Ah, but the beauty of fantasy football is that truly, nothing is really a given, is it?

Yeah, D.A. is for real. Many Beaver fans were skeptical of his play here at the college level but his fellow teammates often told me that despite such criticism, he defintely possesses NFL potential, and they were right. But yes, a good QB and offense makes up only half the game. :)
