How pleasant to see a classical music YouTube clip. It also reminds me that it is my niece's birthday and I have done nothing about that! Thanks...

AAhhh, Beethoven's 5th. This puts a spring in my morning step, Thank you. After listening to your clip, I fished out my CD and listened to one of my favourite Beethoven songs, Für Elise.

Alles Gute zum Geburtstag!

Yay! I completely forgot until I saw this in my newsreader this morning.

I'm a much bigger fan of his piano works than the symphonies, but Beethoven still is The Man.

betty c, I didn't really scour the YouTube, but I was hoping to nag something a little less obvious. :)

colleen, you can never go wrong with Beethoven. And, er, ich gehe in die stadt!

karen, blasphemy! ;-) But they're both great. You should check out Andras Schiff's series. As far as 'newer' ones goes, it's amazing.

Randal,
I don't know much about Beethoven. I do remember there was a 70's disco version of the 5th symphony, right? It was popular at the same time as "Disco Duck."

for 237 his taste in music is pretty good. maybe a little Tupac Shakur and 99 Luft balloons would spice it up a bit...

LBR, yes, there was, because back in 7th grade during the heady days of Saint Ronnie, we had to bring in an instrumental to play for music class. Some joker brought that in. I still have nightmares.

dcap, hey, 50 Cent conducted an orchestra during his commercial hawking of a product on the teevee, so why not! But the English version or the German?

Is that Herbert Von Karijan conducting the 5th? I had to take out my abridged copy of Beethoven's biography.

Randal Graves said...

Yes it is. I was hoping to find some footage of Harnoncourt conducting, since he does my favorite set of symphonies, but you can't go wrong with Karajan.

Especially if you can spell Karajan which I can't.
