I'm sure as we speak someone from the fed govt is out in California rounding up a family who has lost everything in this fire and getting them ready to pose and receive a hug from commander in chief shitwad tomorrow as he swoops in, hugs them, talks about how it will all be rebuilt with gov help and swoops out again with his photo op locked safely away in his Brownie box camera.
Then he'll be off to talk about something inane with the insane 24% who still believe he is sane.
When I was watching the news coverage on this disaster yesterday, I was struck by the difference in those who were being brought to the sports arena for shelter and those in New Orleans that were in the sports arena. In California, they had food, cots, blankets, and volunteers were coming in with carts just loaded with diapers and formula for the babies. The first thing I thought of was "everyone is white"! Then, I felt bad because I thought I was just being partisan. But the more I think about it...is Bush making sure the Katrina mess doesn't happen again, or is it that he just cares more about what happens to rich white folks who might vote Republican in '08?
I believe it has everything to do with winning California in '08 and nothing to do with making sure no one is treated like they were after Katrina.
After all....Louisiana poor and blacks are still without homes.

Mary Ellen, if it was nearly any other Republican 10 years ago, I'd maybe say it was both, but the California thing is an excellent point. These guys will use any tactic and/or vile viewpoint to grab votes, and this can only help. AND with the electoral vote thing rearing its ugly head again... How these assholes sleep at night, I'll never know.

Where there's smoke, there's usually a Republican. I hate to get too tinfoil-hatty in true X-Files style, but all bets are off when it comes to the modern GOP. Nothing would surprise me anymore. Besides an honest, thoughtful, kind conservative.
Another difference between N.O. and the California fires: Nobody said to a stadium full of fire refugees "hey, come on boys, isn't this kind of fun?"
Speaking of New Orleans and Republicans, did you hear they elected a Republican Governor this week? He's an East Indian guy named Bobby Jindal. I guess Blanco decided to call it quits considering the big mess since Katrina. The Dems really took a licking on this, they couldn't even force a runoff election with this guy.
This guy comes off as Mr.Nice Guy, but we have to remember that he was a loyal Bushie who was a chairman on the Medicare reform commission in Washington and he was the assistant secretary in the Department of Health and Human Services.
I'll be curious to see if he does anything for those who still haven't gotten into their homes and are living in asbestos filled trailers. He said he wants to clean up the corruption, we'll see about that. I have a hard time trusting anyone with an "R" after their name.
